Rude, McCain has taken $169,000 in contributions from Directors of Fannie and Freddie (http://www.nytimes.com/imagepages/2008/09/10/us/politics/2008_FANNIE_GRAPHIC.html I know you don’t like links, but you can delete this if you like, it’s just so you don’t think I’m making this up)

(Linkwhore approved. Here it is again, for some reason yours was cut off.)

No no, I know you didn’t make it up.

However, if you click on the Open Secrets link in the post, you will see the chart I clipped above.

The NYT chart that you speak of is mentioned and linked in their comments as well.

Here is the problem, and it’s the reason places like TRN pull any traffic. The NYT claims to have sourced their chart from the Federal Election Commission. Open Secrets make the same claim, and Johnny Mac doesn’t even appear on their chart in the top 25. The Obama number is way off too. The NYT appears to have missed almost 90,000 dollars.

Now I say it is a problem because someone pointed out that the NYT wrote this article, calling The Center for Responsive Politics (also Open Secrets) a nonpartisan group.

How did they cite these guys and miss $90,000? Also, the McCain info at best puts Fannie and Freddie at 100 grand even. The other stuff is from lobbyists, not the organization proper. The NYT is the only group to come up with these numbers, from the same place they say Open Secrets got theirs. The omission of Obama’s money is the worst. It is why they deserve the reputation they have.

All of this is covered in that link, but I understand your interest in pointing out the Times cherry picked numbers. The Times should not be out there with those phony charts.

Also, considering the dollar amounts versus time in office, Obama has taken a staggering $25,000+ a year to himself. That alone is enough for it to be called a slush fund. Chris Dodd take a lot of heat, and rightly so, but he took what? $6000+ a year? It’s still too much of our money, but it makes Obama look like…well…Obama.

Bottom line is that BOTH campaigns took money from Freddie and Fannie. I don’t have a problem with either one doing that. The problem I have is McCain attempting to look like he didn’t receive any money. Which we both know is bullsh**. Until someone proves that McCain DIDN’T take $169,000 from them, I have to say that this is a silly argument on McCain’s part. It just drew attention to himself, and again made him look like a hypocrit.
