Veterans Day was originally called Armistice Day, commemorating the signing of the German Armistice on the 11th hour, 11th day of the 11th month of 1918.
On May 13, 1938 Armistice Day was made a legal holiday by President Roosevelt.
President Eisenhower wrote a letter and signed a proclamtion to observe November 11, 1954 as the first Veterans Day in honor of their sacrifice.
On June 28, 1968 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Uniform Monday Holiday Act and changed Veterans Day to October 25.
On September 25, 1975 President Gerald Ford returns Veterans Day to the original November 11 observance.

Our Veterans, the real life heroes.
We owe them a debt we can not repay. The least we can do is remember and say thanks.
Plan now to send a Christmas care package. Even if just some candy and a note of reminder that they’re in our thoughts and prayers.
Send a note of encouragement to a wounded warrior.
There are lots of web sites and one can call their local recruiter offices for advice on how to support our precious troops. Freedom isn’t free.
